Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) decided to use studio space at the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Mexico City and rented out its own studio in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada to US all-sports pay TV network ESPN.
CBC regretted doing so, as all international broadcasters which used the IBC, which was operated by Mexican media giant Televisa, encountered numerous technical difficulties during the tournament.

Univision (USA, Spanish-language free-to-air broadcast) was known as Spanish International Network (SIN) at the time of broadcast and was owned by the Azcarragua Family which controlled Mexican media giant Televisa.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) forced the Azcarragua family to sell Univision in 1987.
